I LOVE THIS WOMAN

Her style! Her hair! Her junk!...Tracee Ellis Ross is one rockin feminina. Bug eyes and all, I think she is one of the flyest women in hollywood. Yeah, Halle Berry may be a classic beauty, but Tracee has that extra umphh. That little bit of -how do the french say? - Ahh yes. She has the je ne sais quoi that makes her just the absolute hotness in my book. You know, the book of Absolute Hotness.

I've seen her interview twice, and she seems real down to earth and cool. Smart too. One of those mad chill chicks that just happens to be extra fly.

Tracee also happens to be one of the main reasons I watch girlfriends. Her wardrobe keeps me in a dither. By the way, i haven't
watched Girlfriends @ all for this current season. Last thing i remember was Joan being proposed to. Anybody watch that show and can bring me up to speed? Lets recap.

In other news, I finally found a red lipstick I think i won't be afraid to wear out of the house. I love makeup, though i don't wear a lot, and what i do wear is usually quite neutral. For the most part color freaks me out. Lately i've been toying with the idea of a stronger lip color. So...I got this red, and i'm kind of diggin it. I'm going to try it out this weekend(not at the superbowl party though). Hopefully the feedback will be positive. Onliest thing is i have kinda big lips and i don't wanna scare no one. :(

Not to mention when wearing such a bold colored lipstick the rest of the makeup has to be calm -unless you want to look like a pierrot. Which i don't. I mean my makeup is calm anyway, but now i'm wondering if i should even wear blush in addition to the red. Hm. I should probably run this past my sister. We usually bounce makeup ideas off of each other. I won't bore yall with the vagaries of my toilette right now. Until i can talk to my sister I'll just google more pics of Tracee. I know i've seen her wear a red lip. I'll just pay attention to how she augments the rest of her face.

ALLOW ME TO UNLEASH MY INNER DORK

I'm about to go on a science rant, so turn back now if you so desire.

As you may or may not know...one of the things i do for fun is physics. I've spent serious $ on books and sundry on said subject, not to mention i have a not so minor crush on Stephen Hawking.

I'm especially fond of astrophysics, which combines two things i absolutely adore: astronomy and physics. Crazy delicious.

This evening while doing some reading(Isaac Asimov's understanding physics), I was struck anew @ how awesome our universe is. Take the Sun for example. Our Sun, though only a midsized star, is a freakin monster. Its a source of thousands unimaginable
sustained thermonuclear reactions that we can only begin to understand. Think about this: Every second the sun converts about 564 million tons of hydrogen into 560 million tons of helium.

These reactions are caused by fusion, which is when atomic particles combine and form a heavier nucleus. This in itself is awe inspiring because these atomic particles have to overcome their natural tendency to repel each other.

Ever try to push two magnets together with their same poles facing each other? Its impossible. Well in fusion this IS whats happening. When nuclei are heated to extraordinary temperatures, such as that in the sun, they overcome this electromagnetic repulsion and fuse together due to strong nuclear force.

Now if you recall (or scroll up two paragraphs) I stated that every second the sun converts about 564 MILLION TONS of hydrogen into 560 MILLION tons of helium.

"But lex," you ask. "Where did the other 4 million tons go?"

That other 4 million tons was converted into pure energy. The sunlight that gives us our warm glow(unless you're marilyn manson), fades the paint on our homes, provides our soil with nutrients, and heats our atmosphere is the result of the enormous release of energy through fusion. However, only a fraction of this 4 million tons of solar energy reaches earth. And yet, that is enough to sustain life here on earth.

If you don't find that freaking awesome no offense, but you're probably a total moron.

Scientists would love to harness this ability to have controlled sustainable fusion. It would be wonderful as far as energy is concerned. Especially in the production of electricity. Its relatively "clean" and there is not much radioactive leftovers. So-to-speak.However, as of this moment this amazing ability to overcome nuclei repellancy(i think i just made that word up) has only been witnessed in the uncontrolled release of energy of a thermonuclear weapon, known colloquially as the hydrogen or H-bomb. The power of this bomb, and the resultant temperature is what allows for this fusion.

The H-Bomb uses this property of strong nuclear force through fusion as a way of releasing the tremendous amount of energy in atomic nuclei. Unfortunately, this way of releasing energy has no practical use.(unless you want to vaporize your neighbor)

Which brings me to another topic.

Have you ever witnessed the awesome destructive power of a bomb? Not first hand of course. But have you seen footage? Well i did some googling and...for all of their destructive and harmful nature, the actual physics that goes into them is...astounding. Man. (i know, im sure the federalis are watching me as a type)

Trinity Test:

A few weeks before the actual drops of the bombs over Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Tested in New Mexico. Oppenheimer was @ the helm. Watching it gave me chills. Equal parts of horror and fascination.

Castle Bravo:

The first test of a thermonuclear device. Trinity was Nuclear(or, fission based) Castle Bravo was fusion based(such as what occurs on the sun) Detonated March 1st on Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands(where we ladies get our name for our bathing suits) 1000x more powerful than the Atom Bomb, and its yield was 15 Megatons. A surprise to scientists who were expecting something in the 8 megaton range. The nuclear fallout has made these islands uninhabitable to this day.

Ivy Mike:

Another Thermonuclear device tested about two years prior to Castle Bravo(they couldn't get enough could they? The cold war was NO joke):

And then...

Tsar Bomba.

Tsar Bomba is/was the most powerful weapon EVER detonated, with a yield of 50 Megatons. The resulting mushroom cloud was approx SEVEN times higher than mount everest. Its richter magnitude was about a five.

Man.

Its amazing what something as innocuous a the mass equivalence formula can result in. Terrible. Its a wonder we don't all have cancer.

But yeah, as interesting as all of this physics/science stuff is, I'm a little tired. I guess i should go to bed huh? I mean being that its around midnight and all. Besides I'm sure none of yall read all - if any - of what i wrote, but whatever. I enjoyed it. If i appear to be a total nerd well thats alright by me. Because i am. And now i'll get some shut eye.

I WANT SOME POMMES FRITES

And not from McDonalds either. Although they'll do in a pinch.

I want the kind my abuela makes. Freshly peeled(never from frozen) potato, sliced to just the right thickness and fried to the perfect shade of golden.

Yessss. Thats what i want. I could eat a plate of those all to myself, no question. With a dash of salt and a ton of fresh cracked pepper.

Of course, i could make them myself, but certain things always taste better when someone else makes it. This being one of those things. Another being hotdogs. Hotdogs always taste gooder from someone else's kitchen. Gross when cooked in one's own.

Anyway. Enough of the fatty gurl talk.

My boy invited me to his Superbowl party, and I wish i hadn't said yes. Normally i wouldn't have any qualms with changing my mind @ the last minute, but i'm trying to turn over a new leaf and make good on my word. I said i would be there, so imma be there. I think. Ugh. Oh Em Gee! I'm so anti-social! lol

You know what cracks me up and make me want to "wag my finger" though? People who stay wanting to have shindigs at their place of residence, but then want everybody to chip in to make it all come together. Not two minutes after saying i would definitely be in attendance, the text is sent out "what do you think you'll be able to bring?"

um.

Don't get me wrong, I have absolutely no problem in assisting my host/hostess with food/drink/utensils/whatever. My problem is in the asking. Whenever i have something, all i want is for my guests to be there. Bring yourself, and i'll do the rest. If you bring something fine and thank you. If not, thats equally ok. Just sit back and enjoy yourself. Call me bourgie or stuck up or whatever but i can't get down with inviting folx to the crib and then demanding that they bring something.
Its one of those things thats just wrong. Like walking around the house nude. Or making sweet love to Mike Tyson.

Now to be fair, he didn't demand. But its obvious that its kinda mandatory that people bring grub else there'll be a lack of foodstuffs.

So I'm like well "what should i bring?" And the response is "It doesn't matter."

Ok.

Dude. Help me out here. Mess around and i'll bring a Costco sized box of brawny napkins.

*Sigh*

So not only do i have to make myself go to this thing, I also have to bring something. And...i'm not sure what. Finger foods rule @ superbowl parties, but then again i've been to some where its like a whole spread layed out. I could go the "no thought required" soda and beer route, but thats a tad gauche for my taste. Thats more like what a dude would bring.

Shoot. All i wanna do is watch the game you know?

Speaking of which, the jury is still out on who i'm rooting for. The giants are in our division(our being the eagles) Which would normally presuppose me rooting against them. But New England really annoys me, so i'm tempted to root against them. More than tempted actually. Hm. The Giants ARE the underdogs. I have a thing for the underdog. And Eli Manning. (Don't ask.) Well if there is anything this blog accomplished, its that I know the team i'm cheering against. Woo Hoo!

BACK IN THE SADDLE

Four days later and 5lbs lighter i'm finally feeling back to my old self. (thanks for the well wishes every one! i'm feeling so sally field right now)

other than that im back to being pretty much irritated and generally disillusioned with humankind. Which is good a thing. All the while i was sick, i was emo and maudlin and sympathetic. It was pretty gross. lol :/

Nah. But seriously though, whatever that bug was...whew! It was a doozy. I hope none of yall get it. To be honest i started feeling well enough to venture out in the public a day after my last entry, but like any self respecting sick person would, I used my last bit of sickness as an excuse to avoid work and contact with other Aerobes. Don't you judge me!

But yeah, so I went out and got some cinema action on.

After deliberating for a bit the decision was made to go see Cloverfield. Well now that i've seen it...I'm not sure how i feel about it. I think i liked it. But I also think i was disappointed in it. Or maybe its pure unbridled hate i'm feeling? I can't call it. Man...did anyone else see it? Let do a klatsch. I'd start dissertating, but I'd hate to ruin the story for someone who hasn't had a chance to watch it.

Anyways, at the theater, I saw the poster for the new indiana jones movie. Im pretty amped for it. I'd say i'm as much of a fan of the Indiana Jones series as i am for Star Wars, so a new indy flick will be just what the doctor ordered. Plus I love me some John Williams. I'm sure he will score the heck out of this latest addition to the series. And by score, i mean have a brass section the size of Bahrain.

Thats if they do it right.

The new flick is called Indiana Jones and the kingdom of the Crystal Skull. It sounds a little hokey to me, but then again all of the titles are pretty hokey. And thats part of the charm. So, if they(they being Lucas and Spielberg) execute it right - meaning don't go crazy with the CGI and green screens - we should be in for a treat.
